Recommendations

1.  Hard shell

2.  Wheels

3.  As lite as possible

Unfortunately, luggage size and quantity has become a concern in recent years.  Airlines charge huge fees for bags that do not fit their criteria and it seems each airline has it's own standards.

Checked luggage

Checked at the desk of the airline to be shipped in the cargo area of the plane.

The larger of the three bags above would be recommended for a week or longer international trip.

27.5" X 21.5" X 14" (65 linear")

50lb Max

A standard "carry-on" suitcase is 21.5" X 13.5" X 9" (45 linear").  This is made to CARRY ON to the passenger compartment of the plane and can be stored in both above compartments and under any seat. Depending on the airline, there may or may not be a fee.

40-50lbs weight restriction again depending upon the airline.  I would describe this as a weekend bag although I did live out of one my last trip to Hawaii.

Most airlines on international flights will allow the following:

One checked bag (Large piece stored in the cargo area of the plane)

One Carry-on bag (Smaller bag stored in the passenger area of the plane.  TSA restrictions here)

One personal item (Purse, bookbag, laptop, etc)

Over size, Over weight...

Get out your pocket book. $75-$150 per bag!
