Participation

We are very happy to offer this wonderful and historic opportunity to the students of our four Burke County high school bands and their parents/guardians.  Please take a look below and see where you fit in.

Participant

A "Participant" in our 2021 PearlHarbor commemoration is a current student or recent Band graduate of our four BCPS high school band programs who is willing to prepare all music, attend all rehearsals, and follow the rules and guidelines for this trip as a performer as set forth by our Burke County School Board. By definition, these students are age 13-20.  Of course, we realize that a recent graduate may also have to consider their university schedule, work schedule, etc. We hope to construct a rehearsal schedule that will also allow them to participate as much as possible.

Volunteer

A "Volunteer" is a close relative of a Participant.  However, this person is not old enough to assume a supervisory role as Chaperone or does not wish to do so.  This person can provide assistance to the group in logistical support of moving equipment, luggage, etc.  to facilitate our travel, rehearsal, and performance but WILL NOT SUPERVISE STUDENTS.  Seperate hotel arrangements can be made for these folks to accomodate a more "vacation-like" experience if they desire. This person must also complete the BCPS Volunteer form and be approved after a background check.

Chaperone

A "Chaperone" is a close relative or legal guardian of one of our participants age 25 years or older who agrees to follow the itinerary and guidelines set forth by our Directors and assist with the duties of supervision and care of our students while we are away including waking, check-in at curfew times, being available should students need ANY type of assistance, and management of money. These folks will be staying in the same hotel with us.  This person must also complete the BCPS Volunteer form and be approved after a background check.

BCPS Employee

Obviously, an "Employee" of BCPS is certified and approved to work with students in a supervisory capacity.  This will include teachers,

teacher-assistants, and administrators on this trip. Teachers will need to secure a substitute teacher and file appropriate forms to use Personal days for this event.  Other non-instructional personnel should plan to use vacation days for their absences.
